On August 8, Artistic Director Ildar Abdrazakov and a cast of colleagues inaugurate the Elena Obraztsova International Academy of Music at Nevsky Prospekt 35 B. Conducted by the Mikhailovsky Theatre’s Music Director Mikhail Tatarnikov, the gala opening hears Ildar alongside his brother, Askar Abdrazakov, as well as Vasily Ladyuk, Olga Makarina, Yevgeny Akimov, Vladimir Samsonov, Marina Shutov, Olesya Petrova, and Obraztsova’s daughter, Elena Makarova. Additionally, the concert will be simulcast at the central portico Gostiny Dvor on Nevsky Prospekt.
In 2014, Obraztsova herself offered Ildar the position at the new institution, located in the historic center of St. Petersburg and with the mission of training young Russian singers, accompanists and vocal teachers on an international level. The pair’s long artistic relationship and friendship began in 1999 when Ildar won the Grand Prix at the International Elena Obraztsova Competition in St Petersburg.
