On September 6, Ildar plays the menacing title role in a season-opening production of Arrigo Boito’s Mephistopheles under the direction of Robert Carsen. The cast of this resplendent retelling of Goethe’s Faust, which was last staged at the War Memorial Opera House 19 years ago, also includes Ramón Vargas, a tenor “in ravishing voice” (Financial Times) as the philosopher who sells his soul to the Devil and the “luminous, compelling” Patricia Racette (Washington Post) as the woman he desires. Music Director Nicola Luisotti will be on the podium. Repeat performances take place on September 11, 14, 17, 20, 24, 29, and October 2. Find more information and tickets here.
