After his celebrated star turn as the title role in the Met’s production of Le nozze di Figaro, which closed earlier this month, Ildar returns to the house for his second Mozart title role of the season: the rakish Don Giovanni. He is joined on stage by rising star Susanna Phillips as Donna Anna, Emma Bell as Donna Elvira, Charles Castronovo as Don Ottavio, and Erwin Schrott as Giovanni’s lieutenant, Leporello. Edward Gardner conducts the revival of this Michael Grandage production. Ildar was last seen as the Don at Washington National Opera this past September; the Washingtonianpraised his “big, sonorous voice” that was “equally sweet-toned and lyrical,” and the Washington Post noted that he was “perfectly comfortable, and credible, as the World’s Sexiest Man – not something every young bass or bass-baritone can pull off.”
Performances run through December 20; for more information, and to purchase tickets, click here.
